Dede Ayew yet to hit form this season’
Andre Dede Ayew’s slow campaign for Marseille in this season’s French Ligue 1 has been brought into the spotlight, despite Marseille’s comfortable lead on the log.
Ayew has scored only two goals in nine league games for Marseille this season and together with striker, Florian Thauvin, have been described as ‘disappointments.’
Pundits believe the Ghana’s midfielder’s inability to secure a deal outside France during the transfer period had psychologically affected the player though he appears to have accepted his fate and committed to the former European champions.
Compared to last season where he was one of the main live wires for Marseille, renowned French journalist Jean-Michel Larqué believes Ayew should have performed better on the pitch.
“Ayew with Thauvin are both disappointments of the season,” Larque, who works for RMC, said after watching Marseille beat Caen 2-1 last Saturday.
“Andre Ayew? Wait, last year, he was great when the club was in trouble. But this year, it is not at all the same thing.”
Despite his unimpressive form, Ayew’s second goal in Marseille’s 4-0 against Reims is considered one of the best goals of the season. Ayew scored both goals in that game.
